“Omar” – a mural in Berlin that remembers a person who must not be forgotten.
It shows Omar with his dog Megatatze, his loyal companion for many years. Together they stand for so many people living on the streets of Berlin, searching for visibility, dignity and a safe place. Omar lived more than 30 years without permanent housing and tragically passed away in the winter of 2019.

The work is based on a photograph by Debora Ruppert from her series KEIN RAUM – Encounters with people without shelter.
I painted it on the façade of the Central Counseling Center for Homeless People in Berlin.

This project was made possible with the support of Caritas, Berliner Stadtmission, the Frank Zander Foundation, EKBO and many other committed partners.

The painting is deliberately monumental. A man who would otherwise remain unseen becomes unmissable here. Omar laughs loudly and full of life while holding Megatatze close. The image does not only speak of loss but also of dignity, connection and the strength people can preserve even under the hardest circumstances.

My deepest thanks go to @debora_ruppert , who invested the time and energy to organize everything that was necessary.
And above all to my wife @schusa , who carried my share of the care work during this project, even though she herself was under heavy pressure professionally, privately and through volunteer work. Without her I could not have realized this mural.

Omar lived more than 30 years without permanent housing and tragically passed away in the winter of 2019. The work is based on a photograph by Debora Ruppert from her series KEIN RAUM – Encounters with people without shelter. I painted it on the façade of the Central Counseling Center for Homeless People in Berlin. This project was made possible with the support of Caritas, Berliner Stadtmission, the Frank Zander Foundation, EKBO and many other committed partners. The painting is deliberately monumental. A man who would otherwise remain unseen becomes unmissable here. Omar laughs loudly and full of life while holding Megatatze close. The image does not only speak of loss but also of dignity, connection and the strength people can preserve even under the hardest circumstances. My deepest thanks go to @debora_ruppert , who invested the time and energy to organize everything that was necessary. And above all to my wife @schusa , who carried my share of the care work during this project, even though she herself was under heavy pressure professionally, privately and through volunteer work. In the middle of painting a large-scale portrait of Pina Bausch in Wuppertal, invited by the wonderful team of @urbaner_kunstraum_wuppertal as part of the @wuppertal_tanzt project.

A festival like this truly thrives when there is a host who puts heart and soul into it, and that is exactly what I found here. I am grateful for the perfect working conditions and the chance to fully dive into the process.

The mural has just been completed, and very soon I will share the full wall with details and more making-of impressions.

THE ÜRBAN ART, Berlin, May 2025
Just wrapped up an inspiring few days at THE ÜRBAN ART @the.uerban.art exhibition in Berlin, curated by @ueber_fresh in collaboration with @mercedesbenz_de. From May 1st to 4th, 25 international artists from the Urban Art scene came together to showcase works on 2x3 meter canvases. A format that rarely fits in any studio but opens up entirely new dimensions for expression.

It was an honour to paint and exhibit alongside such a nice lineup. Even more special: many of the works, were created on-site, offering the opportunity for exchange and shared moments with great human beings and fellow artists.

My contribution to the show: RESTLICHT

This piece navigates the space between realism and abstraction. Some elements are meticulously rendered, while others dissolve into the background, reflecting the tension between clarity and ambiguity. For me, this painting isn’t about providing answers. It’s about posing questions, about care, responsibility, and the delicate balance between fear and compassion.
Due to the scale of the canvas, this post not only shows the full piece but also close-ups that reveal painterly details and shifts in materiality that unfold across the surface.

Just wrapped up an inspiring few days at THE ÜRBAN ART @the.uerban.art exhibition in Berlin, curated by @ueber_fresh in collaboration with @mercedesbenz_de. From May 1st to 4th, 25 international artists from the Urban Art scene came together to showcase works on 2x3 meter canvases. A format that rarely fits in any studio but opens up entirely new dimensions for expression.

It was an honour to paint and exhibit alongside such a nice lineup. Even more special: many of the works, were created on-site, offering the opportunity for exchange and shared moments with great human beings and fellow artists.

My contribution to the show: RESTLICHT

This piece navigates the space between realism and abstraction. Some elements are meticulously rendered, while others dissolve into the background, reflecting the tension between clarity and ambiguity. For me, this painting isn’t about providing answers. It’s about posing questions, about care, responsibility, and the delicate balance between fear and compassion.

„Gegen das Vergessen - Lest We Forget“
Heute vor 80 Jahren wurde Auschwitz-Birkenau befreit – ein Ort, der wie kein anderer für die unvorstellbaren Verbrechen des Holocaust steht.

Dieses Foto zeigt ein Portrait von Horst Sommerfeld, einen Überlebenden von Auschwitz-Birkenau und mich, während ich an diesem Mural arbeite, das für @stadtwandkunst im Jahr 2020 entstanden ist. Es basiert auf der eindrucksvollen Fotoserie Lest We Forget - Gegen das Vergessen von @toscano7327 , die den Geschichten der Überlebenden Gesichter gibt.
Auch wenn diese Ereignisse so lange zurückliegen, macht die aktuelle Lage in Deutschland dieses Thema dringender denn je. Kunst hat die Kraft, Erinnerungen wachzuhalten und Brücken zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart zu schlagen – aber nicht nur Kunst. Jeder Mensch ist in der Lage, etwas dagegen zu tun. Also geht wählen! Und zwar nicht den Faschismus!

Kunst hat die Kraft, Erinnerungen wachzuhalten und Brücken zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart zu schlagen – aber nicht nur Kunst. Jeder Mensch ist in der Lage, etwas dagegen zu tun.
