How well do you play your role(s) in a world, that teaches even the youngest how much a perfect selfie and the presentation of yourself on social media is worth? That’s actually nothing of real value I believe and I have the feeling that this development of self-presentation gets more dangerous every minute. Especially for people who don’t have much support and social connection, do they know what constitutes them? Or is there nothing (that defines them as human beings) left at all? Live’s a freaky masquerade and we all wear those that suit us best, I guess. But are we free to choose?
That have been my thoughts, when I painted the original canvas ‘Masquerade’ in early 2020 for a group show at Galerie Mathgoth in Paris with the very well matching title ‘Réalités’.
